Pittsboro, NC – The body of a 19-year-old male has been recovered following a drowning incident this evening at Jordan Lake, near 3984 Farrington Road at the intersection with Martha’s Chapel Road.

The victim had been at the lake with eight friends and one family member. The group had been fishing and floating in the water on the opposite side of the roadside guard rail when the incident occurred. According to witnesses, the victim had been using a flotation device, which drifted away. He swam out to retrieve it but is believed to have grown tired and went under.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:30 p.m., and recovery efforts were quickly initiated. The victim’s body was located and recovered at approximately 11 p.m.
His identity is being withheld pending notification of additional family members.
Responding agencies assisting the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office were North Chatham Fire Department, N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, FirstHealth EMS, and Chatham County Emergency Management.
