Pittsboro, NC – NC Governor Josh Stein has issued a State Type I Disaster Declaration for Chatham County and seven neighboring counties — Orange, Durham, Alamance, Caswell, Granville, Person, and Wake — following the significant impacts of Tropical Depression Chantal.

This declaration enables state-funded emergency assistance for eligible residents in Chatham County who have experienced uninsured or underinsured losses due to the storm. Assistance may include low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and in cases where SBA loans are denied, state grants through the Individuals and Households Assistance Program.
“We know many Chatham County residents are still recovering from the effects of this storm,” said Steve Newton, Chatham County Emergency Management Director. “This declaration opens the door for state-level assistance and is a crucial step in helping our community rebuild.”
