Chatham ARC teams up with national partners to help pets find forever homes

Pittsboro, NC – Early Thursday morning, 41 adoptable animals from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Animal Resource Center (ARC) set off on a life-changing journey courtesy of a national rescue initiative aimed at easing overcrowding in local shelters.

Through the BISSELL Pet Foundation’s BISSELL Transport program, a team from Rescue Riders Pet Transport arrived at the ARC to pick up three dogs and 38 cats. The animals — each of whom had been examined by a veterinarian and found to be healthy, vaccinated, and ready for travel — were transported to two partner shelters: the cats were headed to Brandywine Valley SPCA in Pennsylvania and the three dogs to Norfolk SPCA in Virginia, where adoptive families are already waiting to welcome them home.

“We work hard to make sure every animal that comes through our doors has the best possible chance at a happy future,” said Kate Reardon, ARC program coordinator. “Programs like BISSELL Transport open doors we wouldn’t have access to otherwise and allow us to reach families far beyond our local area who are ready and eager to adopt.”

Designed to assist shelters that are overwhelmed by rising intake numbers and limited local adoptions, BISSELL Transport offers ground and air options for moving animals to areas where they’re more likely to be adopted. Rescue Riders Pet Transport, a USDA-licensed and inspected service, ensures that pets are transported with comfort, safety, and compassion.
