Ramseur man charged with attempted murder following stabbing incident

Siler City, NC – A Ramseur man faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, following a stabbing incident that left two people injured in Chatham County last month.

On July 21, 2025, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a residence on Moons Chapel Road, Siler City. While the caller was still on the line with emergency dispatchers, he reported that a man — identified as his ex-wife’s ex-husband — was banging on the door. The caller then said he and his father were confronting the individual.

Though the caller stopped responding, dispatchers could hear an ongoing altercation and overheard someone say they were dying and had been stabbed.

Deputies arrived in the area and encountered a man walking along Moons Chapel Road. The man, later identified as Billy Tanner Gray, 33, of 5783 Ferguson Road, Ramseur, was visibly injured.

Deputies continued to the home and found two male victims with stab wounds. One victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. The second victim also received stab wounds and was transported to Chatham Hospital in Siler City. 

Deputies recovered a knife at the scene.

Following an investigation, Gray was arrested and charged with two counts of felony attempted first degree murder, two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, one count of misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury in the presence of a minor, two counts of misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon in the presence of a minor, two counts of misdemeanor resisting a public officer, two counts of misdemeanor communicating threats, and one count of misdemeanor second degree trespassing.

Gray was issued no bond. His first court appearance was held on August 4, 2025, in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro.
