Pittsboro, NC – Chatham County is proud to honor veterans through Operation Green Light. The Historic Courthouse in Pittsboro is illuminated with green lights from November 4-11, 2025, to honor veterans and raise awareness about the challenges they face.
Operation Green Light is a collaborative effort between Chatham County, the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners, the National Association of Counties, and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers to show visible support for veterans of all military conflicts and highlight the resources available to them and their families through county, state, and federal programs.
At the Chatham County Board of Commissioners’ meeting on October 20, 2025, the Board unanimously passed a resolution supporting Operation Green Light and recognizing the vital contributions of veterans.
Karen Howard, Chair of the Chatham County Board of Commissioners, stated, “Our veterans and their families have made tremendous sacrifices in defense of our freedom and values. We are proud to join with communities across the nation in recognizing their service and commitment. I encourage all Chatham County residents to participate in this simple yet powerful show of appreciation.”
Chatham County residents are invited to show their support by changing one light bulb in their home to green—whether on the exterior of their home or in an interior space where it can spark conversations. By shining a green light, veterans in the community will know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.
Chatham County encourages participants to share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight and tag @ChathamCountyNCGov on Facebook to help spread awareness and inspire others.
