Bear Creek, NC – On the night of November 6, 2025, two people were discovered deceased from gunshot wounds in a residence in Bear Creek, North Carolina, and investigators from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Deputies responded shortly before 10:30 p.m. to a home on the 700 block of Effie Welch Road in Bear Creek after a call from a resident who reported fear of escalation during an argument.
Upon arrival, officers looked through a window and observed two people lying on the floor inside the residence. When they entered, they found the two victims—identified as 50-year-old Jennifer Scott and 54-year-old Jeffrey Michael Scott, a married couple living at that address.
A firearm was located near the victims, and as of the latest public update, no additional persons are believed to have been involved.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s office has classified the case as a death investigation and has not released a formal motive or determination of what occurred inside the home. Deputies stated the victims suffered gunshot wounds and are believed to have died at the residence.
At present, law enforcement has not announced any arrests in connection with the incident nor publicly named any suspects. Detailing on forensic findings, autopsy results and timeline of the shooting have not been released to the public.
The absence of additional individuals in the home at the time of discovery suggests that the event may have been contained to those inside the residence, but that characterization is subject to change as more evidence is processed.
