NCHSAA announces schedule adjustments due to winter weather

Chapel Hill, NC – In response to the widespread snow and hazardous travel conditions affecting communities across North Carolina, the NCHSAA has made several changes to the upcoming calendar. With the safety of all participants, officials, and spectators in mind, the Association will implement the following adjustments for the winter sports seasons.

Swimming & Diving
All state swimming and diving events previously scheduled for Wednesday–Saturday, February 4–7 will be postponed. Competition will now be conducted Wednesday–Saturday, February 11–14.

Indoor Track & Field
The reporting deadline for state qualifiers has been moved to Saturday, February 7 at 9 p.m. State championship meets will be rescheduled as follows:

  • 1A/2A: Wednesday morning, February 11
  • 3A: Wednesday afternoon, February 11
  • 6A: Thursday morning, February 12
  • 4A: Thursday afternoon, February 12
  • 7A: Wednesday morning, February 18
  • 5A: Wednesday afternoon, February 18
  • 8A: Thursday morning, February 19

Men’s Dual Team Wrestling
All dual team wrestling scheduled for this week will be postponed. Revised dates are:

  • Rounds 1–2: February 10–12
  • Rounds 3–4: February 16–18
  • State Finals (Greensboro): Sunday afternoon, February 22

There are no changes to the men’s individual regional or state championships.

Women’s Wrestling
Women’s regional wrestling scheduled for February 6–7 will be postponed. Regionals will now be held February 10–12.

Basketball Scheduling Flexibility
To assist schools with rescheduling challenges, the Board will waive the handbook requirement (4.3.1(e)) that one of the four allowable games in a two-week period be played on a non-school day, providing additional local scheduling flexibility.


The NCHSAA will continue to monitor conditions statewide and work closely with member schools to address remaining challenges. Any additional changes will be communicated as soon as they are finalized and approved by the Board of Directors.
