Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham Economic Development Corporation (EDC) today issued the following statement regarding the updated scope of the VinFast electric vehicle manufacturing project in Chatham County.

The VinFast project is currently stationed at the Triangle Innovation Point mega-site, just 12 minutes from the I-540 Outer Loop, and its strategic location serves as one of the key reasons the site was selected for the project.
“We are encouraged by VinFast’s submission of an updated building permit and view it as a positive step toward restarting momentum on this transformative project,” said Chatham County Manager Bryan Thompson. “Chatham County remains enthusiastic about the long-term economic opportunities and regional benefits this investment will bring, including job creation, infrastructure growth, and innovation in advanced manufacturing. We look forward to continued collaboration with VinFast as the project moves ahead and to realizing its full potential for our community and the broader region.”
The project continues to be one of the largest economic development efforts in Chatham County’s history and is expected to bring advanced manufacturing jobs, an increased tax base, and long-term economic benefits to the region.
“Our county remains the primo location for responsible growth and business development, even amidst challenges and changes. With an adjusted strategy, my expectation is to see real time progress on additional horizontal and vertical development by Vinfast without delay.” Says Chatham EDC Board of Directors Chairman, Antonio McBroom.
The Chatham EDC will continue working closely with VinFast, state and local partners, and community stakeholders to ensure the project’s success and maximize its long-term impact.
